If you are planning a holiday in the south of Portugal (Algarve) and are looking for ideas to entertain the little ones, we have good news: the Algarve is a true paradise for families! With safe beaches, water parks, outdoor activities and lots of nature, there is no shortage of options to guarantee unforgettable moments with the family.

At Baby Sisters, we know how challenging it can be to find activities that please the whole family, so we have prepared a list of unmissable activities to do in the Algarve with children. So you can make the most of your family holiday!

1. Zoomarine, in Albufeira

Zoomarine is one of the most popular family attractions in the Algarve. The theme park combines fun activities such as dolphin, seal and tropical bird shows, as well as an area with slides, a wave pool, a 4D cinema and even an artificial beach.

It is the perfect program for a whole family day out. There are relaxation areas, restaurants and specific areas for younger children.

2. Slide & Splash, em Lagoa

For families who love water and adrenaline, Slide & Splash is an excellent option. It is one of the largest water parks in Europe, with slides for all ages, swimming pools, relaxation areas and activities for young children.

It is ideal for a hot summer day, especially if your children are old enough to try more exciting attractions.

3. Boat trips to caves and dolphins

The Algarve coast is known for its impressive caves and frequent dolphin sightings. There are several companies that organize boat trips from places such as Albufeira, Lagos, Portimão or Vilamoura, with an average duration of 1 to 2 hours.

Here are some suggestions of companies:

These trips are an excellent way to show children the natural beauty of the Algarve and create unique moments with the family.

4. Krazy World, in Algoz

Krazy World is a mix of a mini-zoo, an amusement park and a water park. Children can interact with exotic animals, ride go-karts, play mini-golf and cool off in the pool.

There are also shaded areas and dining areas, which make the visit more comfortable.

5. Marinha Beach and Barril beach (Praia da Marinha e Praia do Barril)

Not all beaches are the same when traveling with children. Praia da Marinha, in Lagoa, is one of the most beautiful in Portugal, with calm waters and rock formations to explore.

Praia do Barril, in Tavira, is famous for its access via a little train that appeals to children and adults alike.

Choose beaches with a blue flag, easy access and lifeguards. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and snacks.

6. Ludo Trail and Ria Formosa (Trilha do Ludo and Ria Formosa)

For more adventurous families, the Ludo trail, near Faro airport, is an excellent suggestion. It is a light walk through the Ria Formosa, where you can see flamingos and other birds, as well as learn more about the local fauna and flora.

It is free, safe and educational. It can be done on foot or by bike.

7. Cultural activities and creative workshops

During the summer, many Algarve town councils organise free or low-cost activities for families, such as painting workshops, theatre performances, live music and open-air cinema sessions.

It is worth checking the cultural calendar of cities such as Loulé, Lagos, Faro or Tavira to find programmes for children.
